National Indigenous Fire Workshop Dhungala 2019

4-7 June 2019 

On Yorta Yorta Woka (Yorta Yorta Country) on Dhungala (Murray River)

The National Indigenous Fire Workshop is a celebration of cultural fire knowledge and practice. This year’s event will be co-hosted by the Yorta Yorta people and held along the Dhungala (Murray River) at Barmah National Park, Barmah VIC from 4th to 7th of June 2019.

The main location of the workshop is in Barmah National Park which is located along the Murray River near the town of Barmah on the Victorian and NSW border about 225 km north of Melbourne.

This is an important and unique event that continues the journey of the Cape York fire workshops (more info) by rebuilding cultural fire pathways across Australia. Together we will strengthen our cultural fire knowledge base and partnerships by:

  • Acknowledging and respecting Traditional Custodianship and connection to Country
  • Enabling Indigenous leadership through community mentorship on Country
  • Providing inspiring, engaging and informative experiences to showcase Indigenous led fire practices

Cultural Fire Masterclasses for all registered participants.

The Cultural Fire Masterclasses will focus on practical, hands on Indigenous led fire training and mentoring for aspiring and practicing fire practitioners and their enabling community and industry partners.

Friday 7 June 2019

The workshop officially finishes in the morning with a farewell ceremony. There are opportunities for self directed fire circles and group activities to continue throughout the day. Please submit EOI to host fire circles or activities at workshops@firesticks.org.au

Tickets can be purchased online at Try Booking. There are credit/debit card or bank transfer/invoice payment options. Unless sold out tickets will be on sale until 13 May 2019, after this time they may incur a $100 per ticket late fee.

  • Government and Research Bodies ($2,200.00)

Ticket price includes access to the masterclasses, onsite camping and meals. More details will be provided here in the lead up or if urgent contact us at workshops@firesticks.org.au

Camp kits and travel requests- book a camp kit or need other assistance?

Thanks to the generous support of our Major Sponsor the Victorian Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning we can offer camping kits (tent, stretcher, sleeping bag and pillow) for Dhungala ticket holders, these will be allocated first to those that have completed a camping request form. There may be spares kits, but no guarantees unless you book before 27 May and we confirm. They will be set up in allocated camping areas near the Dharnya Centre (venue). If you wish to book a camp kit or need other assistance please (use this link) to register your requests. We are not offering travel support, but please state if you would like airport transfers to venue in the form at “Other requests or comments” and we will see what we can do.

Other Payment Option: If you cannot pay by credit card and need an invoice to pay by bank transfer please book your tickets at Try Booking and follow these instructions. Enter “Invoice” into the promotional code at payment point. A ticket will be generated, but it will not be valid until payment is received and will cancelled if not paid within 2 weeks of purchase.
